From a kid, my old man always had an organ or set of drums in the house. Although, I never quite picked up his knowledge and playing ability. I just like making "Pete Music".
I first started tinkering with sound during my the 4th year G.C.S.E Music. Although my teacher was good, he had 6 swat like students who knew Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats" inside out and "Scales". All the stuff i wish I'd of learn t. So the teacher rightfully concentrated his efforts on the students who were likely to pass the exam. whilst my mate Dave and I made avant garde noise pollution in another music room.
I first started with a two track reel to reel recorder. I'd take an instrumental track. "Theft I know". It was never gonna be a hit though. and put voice samples and what ever else on the second track over the top. in time of course, Well ish. This was no top of the range reel to reel you know.
It was around this time that I was doing my paper round. I was a mad rocker type. I guess as a bit of an insecurity thing id sometimes do mad things like crash my bike on purpose, just to get a laugh. None the less I became friends with a guy called Bonnie.
He gave me a nickname of "je suis un rock star". He'd say, "je suis man, I'm going to make a rock star out of you" (Needless to say, this never happened). No less, he took me on board, and showed me the basics of playing Bass guitar. and encouraged me to save up for a bass. The first day I got it, he made me take all of the strings off. Take out all of the screws. and rebuild it in such a way as it would be properly set up. It was to make me appreciate my new instrument. I'm still not a fantastic bass player now. That's a Lack of effort on my part. I was introduced to a guy called Simon. I remembered him playing in a school assembly with his first band. they played a few Beatles covers I think. We did a few gigs, And I'd F£$% the baselines up because I got all tense.
As time passed by we started some trippy stuff with a twin tape deck better than what i'd done on my old two track.
the equipment got better over the years. advancing to a tascam 144 portastudio. Then needless to say, computers got better over the years. Then came the P.C studio. I spent allot of time over the years learning stuff from bonnie and Simon. I thank them for the help and patience they had. I'm left handed. but for the life of me cannot get to grips with playing a bass or guitar left handed.
so play it right. Either way, I'd be crap left handed. so i just as well be slightly crap right handed.
I have a go at guitar, bass and keyboard. Yet never get round to singing. I shall make it a dmusic goal.
So the short version is. I'm here to get motivated and start making some sounds again.
Thanks for reading
